Keep the touts out

We’ve all seen them at gigs; the guys lurking near the entrance offering tickets for the upcoming event at vastly-inflated prices, while only offering those who have something to sell a fraction of the face value. Yes, the tout. One of my big pet hates, along with finding an r4i card with adequate memory and small children on long train journeys.
I actually once touted a ticket myself, accidentally of course. I had an extra ticket for a sold out Snow Patrol gig when they were at the height of their fame and decided to out it on eBay, with a “Buy it Now” option that equalled the price I’d paid for the ticket. I guess I wasn’t concentrating, howvere, because when I went back to check my auction the next day, the ticket was already at £150 and I eventually got over £200 for it. Believe me, I felt so guilty I could hardly enjoy the gig!
Now, us music fans can cut out the middle man, be it Gumtree, eBay or touts, and exchange or sell our unwanted gig and event tickets in a safe and secure environment; Seatwave. Basically, it acts like any other ticket sales website, except that you aren’t buying from the venue or a box office but another regular concert-goer. There is a limit on how much over face value you can advertise your tickets for sale (enough to cover costs like booking fee, postage, telephone calls etc) and you can even advertise exchanges if you want to change the night when or the city where you attend a certain event. It’s not without it’s faults – after all, you’re still relying on members of the public to behave properly – but anything that can put those touts out of a job is alright with me!
